On a secret Wiesner-Hager test site, Mark Mitchell and Ray Tango wait for the countdown. Their mission: hit the limits! – their own, and those of the actual star of the show: the paro_plus swivel chair!
To be quite honest, none of us knew exactly what was in store for us that Monday. We stood in front of the gates of a hall on the exhibition grounds in Ried im Innkreis, a sheet of paper in our hands with the idea for a film: “Try hard: the strictest quality check ever.” The scenario: office furniture by Wiesner-Hager can fulfil the hardest and toughest requirements and is outstanding for its durability. To guarantee this, Wiesner-Hager tests its products without mercy. This is what we wanted to show. Though we have to admit: maybe the idea was a little over the top, but isn’t that where all the thrills and the spills are? So we asked ourselves: how can we put the chair to the test in a way it would never have expected …
There we were. In Ried. In front of the Skate Hall on the exhibition grounds. Pipes, ramps and other obstacles awaiting paro_plus. The first tentative tries - the chairs rolled along, fantastic in action. The challenge was to keep the balance. As for direction, OK, you might say our agents and the chair didn’t always share the same idea about that. Mark and Ray pushed each other, gave no leeway, and hit the limits as promised. Jumps, slides, pirouettes, falls … great movie material from both of them. But – and this is the most remarkable thing about the trial – the actual star of the film, the swivel chair, was right up there with them. A scratch here, a wheel lost there – no reason to bring in a stand-in.
Eventually we finished shooting. It was all in the box. And we knew: the office furniture sector has never seen a commercial like this one. A piece of advertising film history, nothing less.
